Unlike beds for humans, pet beds don't have legs and usually rest at floor level. Most pet beds are shaped like a doughnut, while others have raised sides to prevent the pet from tumbling out in mid-sleep.Apart from being comfortable, a pet bed needs to be durable. Most pet beds are made of foam. Choose one that suits your pet - a delicate breed might require a softer bed than a hardier animal. Special orthopedic pet beds are also available for arthritic dogs.
Size is important when choosing a bed for your pet. The idea is to buy a bed that makes your pet feel comfortable and safe. There is no point investing in a bed if your pet prefers to huddle under your bedcovers instead.
If you don't like the idea of your pet making your furniture his own, invest in a pet sofa that can double as a bed. Whatever you choose, make sure your pet understands that he has to use his bed.
